Marine Chairman Paul Leary said: “I am delighted that Alvin has agreed to the extension of his contract for another two years. He is fully committed to Marine Football Club and I know from his efforts of the last three years, with his assistant Peter Carroll, that he will continue to do his best to bring further success to our Club. During the month of April, Lee captained the team on 5 occasions, scoring 3 goals (2 at Ashton United and 1 at Buxton). The selection was made by the Marine Supporters’ Association committee at Sunday’s meeting. 2008/2009 UniBond Premier Preview by Richard Cross The season kicks off on Saturday 16th August, with a number of new Clubs entering the UniBond Premier Division for the first time, while we also welcome back a number of Clubs who are returning to the division. Promoted from UniBond Division One North are Bradford Park Avenue, who return to the top flight after a number of years absence, Bradford are joined by FC United of Manchester who beat Skelmersdale United in the play offs. From the UniBond Division One South, we welcome both Cammell Laird (who gained automatic promotion due to Retford United’s ground failing the Premier Division grade) and Nantwich Town (who beat Sheffield FC in the play-offs). Relegated from Blue Square North are Vauxhall Motors, Leigh RMI and Hucknall Town. Marine will see an increase in the number of short local trips for the new season. 2007/2008 UniBond Review by Richard Cross Our congratulations go to Fleetwood Town for clinching the UniBond League Premier title on the final day of the season for automatic promotion to the Blue Square North. Fleetwood are joined by Gateshead who beat Buxton in front of 1400 fans at the International Stadium. At the opposite end of the table, we send our commiserations to Leek Town, Stamford and Lincoln Unitedwho will all be relegated to the UniBond Division One feeder leagues. In the First Division North, Bridlington Town and in the South, Alsager Town (due to ground grading) have been relegated. UniBond Club of the Month Awards - April/May The final UniBond “Club of the Month” awards for April/May have gone to Gateshead, FC United of Manchester and Nantwich Town all of whom coincidentally won their respective Division’s play-off finals and were also all taking the award for a second time in the season. Gateshead won the Premier Division prize in some style with seven wins and a draw in their eight games scoring 27 goals and conceding just two. FC United had a real fixture pile up to negotiate in April but still managed to pick up the President’s Cup in addition to winning the play-offs recording eight victories and losing only two of their thirteen fixtures. NANTWICH TOWN lifted the First Division South accolade winning seven of their nine games against some tough opposition including Blue Square National side Altrincham in the Cheshire Senior Cup Final. UniBond Fair Play Awards - April/May plus Season Awards The UniBond “Fair Play” awards for April have gone to Witton Albion, Rossendale United and Kidsgrove Athletic respectively. Albion’s record of just one caution in four games cemented their place at the top of the Premier Division Fair Play table although surprisingly for an overall season winner it was the first occasion they had lifted a monthly award. The £1,000 winners cheque added to the £3,600 for finishing league runners-up will be some small consolation for them narrowly missing out on promotion for the second successive campaign. GATESHEAD took second place in the Fair Play table and pocketed £650 whilst GUISELEY in third took home £350 thanks to finishing 0.01 of a point ahead of Matlock Town. NEWCASTLE BLUE STAR won the £1,000 first prize in the First Division North whilst Rossendale’s April award lifted them to second overall and £650 at the expense of WOODLEY SPORTS who had their hitherto good record blighted by a poor April to finish third overall which cost them £300. Kidsgrove’s third monthly award of the season enabled them to overtake QUORN in the race to the First Division South £1,000 prize with WARRINGTON TOWN picking up the £350 for third spot in the final overall season table. - - - - - - OFFICIAL WEBSITE LINKS - - - - - - UniBond League Television - for live games and match of the week highlights BetterBetCorbett – for all pricing on UniBond League Premier, North and South games UniBond League – for all latest league news, signings, fixtures, awards and league tables Maghull Group – Main Sponsors of Marine F.C.
